The Latest Gmail and Yahoo Rules You Need to Know!

(If you have an email list, this means when you send a broadcast to your subscribers.)

To keep inboxes safer, Gmail and Yahoo are implementing new protections. You have until February 1 to comply or your subscribers may not see your emails. Maybe you’ve already done some of these steps but I thought I would write this in case you still need to take action.

1. Send your emails from a custom domain. For example, my custom domain is nuBeginning.com and my email is hello@nuBeginning.com

2. Authenticate your emails with a custom DKIM - This is a digital signature that shows the emails were sent by you.

3. Publish a DMARC policy - Publish a DMARC policy for your custom domain using a DNS record with a policy of None, Quarantine, or Reject. This helps protect your email reputation. After you set up your DMARC record, you can verify it was done correctly by entering your domain here: https://dmarcian.com/dmarc-inspector/

(There will be a box to enter your domain to verify that your DMARC record is valid.) Your email provider may already do some of these things for you. My email provider is Systeme.io and the only thing I needed to do was set up the DMARC record…

Systeme.io had everything else done. The steps, which can get technical, must be done ASAP or your email may not land properly in your subscribers’ inbox.

4. Here are a couple of other items to keep in mind: You must keep spam complaints as low as possible. Make it easy for subscribers to unsubscribe. If you take some time now to make sure you implement all of the above, you’ll have nothing to worry about when February 1 rolls around.
